Only One Week to Go!!!

Updated: Oct 3, 2023

Let's brush up on what we know - and get to what we don't!

1. Welcome New Colleagues

2. Our new match management platform - officialsHQ - registration and availability

3. Information from umpires' meetings

1. Welcome New Colleagues

With many umpires joining us this year, there's going to be quite a bit of "getting to know you". We suggest that, when appointment notices arrive, you contact your partner, arrange your arrival time, and start the season as a team of two. Remember, there are 22 players, and just two of us at each match!

New umpires please note: do you have your VSDCA uniform - your match day shirt and your "travel to ground" polo shirt? These are essential pieces of kit.  If you don't have them, act now!

Contact James Barrett 0408 327 977.

This is a very busy time of year for James, so perhaps text him to introduce yourself and arrange to collect whatever parts of the uniform you are missing.

2. Our new match management platform - officialsHQ - registration and availability

Everything has changed! While it is going to take some time for each of us to become familiar with the new cricket platform playHQ/officialsHQ, there are some things that just have to happen before the season starts:

A. Every umpire must complete registration. Click here to go to the start page.

The process is reasonably intuitive once you log in; however should you need further assistance, here is a brief instructional presentation provided by Cricket Victoria.

For assistance, contact Neill Murray 0419 881 226, but please, only after attempting to register as above.

B. Block out dates on which you know you will be unavailable.

Unlike our previous platform, OfficialsHQ does not require you to state your availability - rather it assumes you are always available unless you advise differently.

To mark yourself as UNAVAILABLE, go to the LEAVES tab on your home page and simply mark off the dates. NOTE: there is no need to supply detail as to why you are unavailable, simply mark the dates.

C. you MUST accept the appointment to matches. This is done using a tab in the notification email that you will receive.

Accepting the appointment allows you to be paid, and also makes you able to complete the Match Report and Player voting.

3. Information from umpires meetings

There are changes to VSDCA Rules including starting times (all matches now start at 12.30 pm), drinks breaks (all now ON the field), fitness of ground for play, player misbehaviour minor and serious, and also one day wides.

If you missed the umpires meetings, you can catch up on the changes through the VSDCA Pennant Handbook, also in two presentations here... ...and here

There will be more information later in the week. Until then, don't forget to check your kit, get those trousers pressed and the shoes cleaned, and get ready for a great season!

Oh! and did I forget?  Don't forget to have fun!
