Two stalwarts of the Subbies umpiring ranks, David D'Altera aka 'Balltearer' and Merv Hindson, recently notched up significant achievements.
Merv who is already a life member of both the VSDCA & VSDCUA and their respective '200 Game Club' added another couple of impressive achievements to his cricketing CV!.
In Round 7 he chalked up his 350th 1st XI game and in the forthcoming finals series, he will officiate in his 450th game of Subbies cricket. No doubt Merv will come to notice again in the not too distant future when he adds another 50 or so games to his tally.

Balltearer, who is also a life member and 200 Club member of the VSDCUA, has an umpiring career that extends over 41 years. (37 of those in Subbies ranks), got to officiate in his first grand final at any level, when he and Jeremy Anthony were selected to officiate in the inaugural North West 5th XI Sunday competition Grand Final held last Sunday.
In the words of our 'Appointment Officer' Neill Murray, Dave was 'tickled pink' to finally get to do a grand final. Neill further commented that the appointment was fitting as Dave is a true VSDCA believer and, if there can be such a thing, reliable to a fault. The Subbies CEO Ken Hilton on hearing of this described Dave as a loyal member of the Association. Dave also achieved another significant first way back in 1988, being the inaugural winner of the Matt Harris 'Most Improved' umpire award.
Our Association is fortunate to have individuals like Merv and Dave, as they are integral to the fabric of our organisation and long may they continue to serve us.
Congratulations to both of you!
