Round 12, Day 2
1. It’s warming up, umps!
2. Runners
3. Match balls
4. Finishing times
1. It’s warming up folks
1.And in all likelihood we have not acclimatised to it this year, so far - so please take care of your hydration. Tomorrow at your match is too late to catch up on fluids.
Hydrate early and often. You will be rewarded with better concentration, especially as the day progresses.
2. Runners – refer Law 25.5
25.5.1 The umpires may allow a runner for a batter if they are satisfied
25.5.1.1 that the batter has sustained an injury that affects her/ his ability to run and that this occurred during the match
25.5.1.2 for any other wholly acceptable reason.
In all other circumstances a runner is not allowed.
25.5.2 runner shall
25.5.2.1 be a member of the batting side
25.5.2.2 if possible, have already batted in that innings; when this is not possible, if circumstances permit such that a dismissed batter can act as runner, then the runner must be changed immediately
25.5.2.3 be changed only with the consent of the umpires
25.2.2.4 wear external protective equipment equivalent to that worn by the batter for whom she/ he runs and shall carry a bat
3. Match balls – VSDCA Handbook, p16, and VSDCA Rule 13
Please inspect the ball/s supplied by the clubs to check that the cricket ball/s meet the VSDCA requirements.
Kookaburra VSDCA Branded Regulation can be used by all XIs (1st – 4th XI).
Kookaburra VSDCA Branded Club Match to be used in 3rd & 4th XI games only.
4. Finishing Times
Where a result has been obtained, and with the agreement of both captains (NB this is a captains’ decision, not one for the umpires) stumps may be drawn before the scheduled close of play.
Umpires also note: under no circumstances may a match be terminated under these conditions before the conclusion of the tea interval.
Where a match finishes early, regardless of the time, the reason for termination MUST be explained in the Umpire Match Report.
In conclusion - as they say in Northern Ireland (Norn Iron), “termarra’s ‘swarmwun!”, so please take care and hydrate. Check with your partner during the day, encourage and support each other if the temperature is rising.
And don’t forget – do your best, and have fun!
